Phew! The games are coming thick 'n fast these days. Barely have I recovered from the excitement of the midweek action (no, not that guffery in Lisbon, I'm talking about Ayr's 4-0 pumping at the hands of East Fife) when another batch of #fitbawaction comes our way. Fans of the Old Firm get to go shopping tomorrow while the rest of the huddled masses take to the buses, meaning, for the second week running, we have an Old Firm-free Four to Follow. And this week we welcome back Garry Swan, Scotland's only Tony Danza enthusiast, who has picked out four games you simply must follow this weekend.
Hey fellas, fellas - can I count it off? Ah one two three four ...
SPL » Aberdeen v Hearts
I've picked this one because Hearts will be pushing to split the Old Firm at the top, and because Aberdeen will be trying to build on the dizzying success of 2 wins on the bounce.
Hearts currently lie on 54 points in 3rd place in the league, a mere two behind Rangers and a full 10 behind leaders Celtic. Rangers do have two games in hand, but it'd still be quite pleasant to see the top two broken up and someone else taking a decent spot in the league for a change.
Aberdeen are due up for a good run of form, and they may be about to burst into one. After dropping 3 points at Motherwell, the Dons hit straight back with a 5-0 battering of a struggling Kilmarnock side and a 1 goal victory over this year’s SPL Whipping Boys, Hamilton.
I'm predicting a thrilling 2-1 victory for Hearts, but it will be close and Aberdeen will be unlucky to concede a late goal.
Division 1 » Raith Rovers v Stirling
Its top against bottom in Kircaldy this weekend, and I can’t see much beyond 3 points for the home side. Flying high on 42 points, Raith are proving themselves as being a tough side to beat and getting closer and closer to the Holy Grail of getting humped by the Old Firm next season.
Stirling are currently having a shocking season and are languishing at the bottom end of the table on a meagre 14 points. I have Ross County on Football Manager with more points after 5 games (we've been lucky, since you ask). I suspect Albion will be returning to their previous 2nd division stamping grounds next year.
Prediction: 4-0 win for Raith Rovers, 1-0 at the half.
Divison 2 » Stenhousemuir v Peterhead
It’s a battle of the bottom in this fixture as Peterhead look to get out of the relegation spots, and Stenny attempt to haul in the gap between the two teams.
Both teams have been playing awful, awful football this season, and will be hoping to capitalise on the poor play of the opposition to boost their own chances for survival, but to be honest, I'm not sure that either side will take their chances properly.
I suspect it'll be a dreadful and dismal 0-0 draw with many fans striding off before the end.
Division 3 » Clyde V Stranraer
Clyde are sitting in last on 10 points. It’s not a great situation for any team, but luckily relegation isn't possible from this division of the football league. Still, they've not been playing bad football this year, they've just got a pants defence.
Stranraer are just 1 point behind leaders Arbroath in what is turning out to be a lo-fi version of the Bundesliga in that its different teams challenging for the title every week. Seeing as there is just a one point deficit and Arbroath are playing 6th placed Elgin, the odds are both teams will remain where they are in the league.
I see this one as an away victory for your pools form. By 3 decent goals to 1 lucky one.
