Jimmy Bonthrone, who managed Aberdeen between 1971 and 1975, has died at the age of 79.
One of five managers at Pittodrie during the seventies, Jimmy was also an accomplished striker at East Fife, Dundee, Stirling Albion and Queen of the South, before taking over from Eddie Turnbull as Aberdeen manager following Turnbull's appointment as Hibernian manager.
Although not the most successful period the club has had - the only trophy in this period being the Dryburgh Cup, as well as losing Martin Buchan to Manchester United and Joe Harper to Everton - Bonthrone brought in Drew Jarvie and Hungarian international Zoltan Vagra, as well as giving a young Willie Miller his first game in 1972. Jimmy left the club in 1975 and was succeeded by Ally McLeod.
Our condolences go out to Jimmy's family from all at Inside Left.
