Match Day: Scottish Football 30th August Round-up

It's been another cracking day across all the leagues in Scotland. In the Scottish Premier League, a rather unique set of results sees every home team losing, we have new league leaders in all but one of the Scottish Divisions, while up in the Highland League, the call for more goals was answered with a stunning 34 goals in the seven games played.

We have round-ups of all the games in the Scottish First, Second and Third Divisions, but we start, as always, in the Scottish Premier League and a game between two sides struggling to find regular form.

It's more misery for Dundee United, who go down at home to Kilmarnock. Goals from Danny Invincibile and Gavin Skelton sealed the three points for Killie, who have so far not conceded a single goal this season. The win, against a disappointing United side puts Jim Jefferies' men top of the SPL, a position they'll hold if Celtic and Rangers only manage a draw tomorrow. United drop down to 10th place, and Craig Levein must be worried about his sides inability to finish in front of goal. Final score, Dundee United 0:2 Kilmarnock

Falkirk remain without a win as they lose to Inverness CT despite taking the lead through a Mark Stewart goal after half-time. Don Cowie levelled the scores before Dougie Imrie fired in the winner with five minutes to go, following a defensive blunder at the heart of the Falkirk defence that allowed Don Cowie's blocked shot to fall to Dougie Imrie. There's still no points to show for all their efforts - their next game is not until the 13th September against Hearts, time that John Hughes will desperately need to turn things around. Final score, Falkirk 1:2 Inverness CT.

Hearts got back to winning ways as they beat Hamilton, who have not lost their last two games. Goals from Zaliukas and Driver proved enough, despite a late Derek Lyle goal. The win is Hearts' first away win of the season. Final score, Hamilton 1:2 Hearts.

Hibernian's nightmare week just took another turn for the worse as a John Sutton goal gives Motherwell their first win of the season. Sutton continues to impress for The 'Well and is turning into a classy addition to the team. Final score, Hibs 0:1 Motherwell.

The last game of the day saw Aberdeen record another win against St. Mirren. Darren Mackie got the goal just before half-time, thanks to some poor defending from Will Haining and John Potter. Final score, St. Mirren 0:1 Aberdeen.

Scottish Division One

Livingston take over from Dundee at the top of the First Division as they beat Dunfermline with two goals from Leigh Griffiths. Andy Kirk had brought the Pars level just after the restart but Livingston got their nose out in front again when Griffiths score his second of the game  (1:2).

Queen of the South put their disappointing midweek Uefa Cup exit behind them as they beat league leaders Dundee at Palmerston Park. Stephen Dobbie scored twice for the Doonhamers as they came behind from a Chris Pozniak goal in the fourteenth minute.  Craig Barr got the other goal (3:1).

St. Johnstone lose again, this time to a Clyde team who finally get their first win of the season under their belt. The Bully Wee raced into an early lead, two goals up just before half time, but they allowed The Saints back in with goals by Derek Holmes and Stuart McCaffrey, but with ten minutes left on the clock, Ricky Waddell put the ball in the net to seal the win for Clyde. St. Johnstone, a tip for the title, have now gone three games without a win in the league (2:3).

Ross County defied the odds as they beat Partick Thistle in Glasgow. The Staggies scored early through a Steven Craig goal in the seventh minute. Thistle played the second-half with only ten men when John Robertson sent off just before half-time for stamping (0:1).

Morton where unable to build on their midweek success against SPL side Hibs as they go down to a strong Airdrie side, themselves still celebrating following their win over Hearts in the CIS Cup on Thursday. Two goals from McLaughlin and one each from Di Giacomo, Nixon and Lynch capped a good win for Airdrie. Morton's miserable afternoon was completed when Allan McManus was sent off with four minutes to go (5:1).

Scottish Division Two

The Second is the only division this week not to have new team at the top. Ayr continue to lead as they beat Queens Park thanks to two Bryan Prunty goals; Anthony Quinn scored for the Spiders (2:1). Alloa and Stranraer trade places at the bottom of the table as The Wasps put five past the team from the west coast, who also had Kevin Nicoll sent off (5:1). Stirling pour more misery on Arbroath's worrying loss of form as they win to pull themselves into fifth place (2:1). Peterhead missed their chance to catch up with Ayr as they lost to Raith Rovers (1:2) while Brechin City drop two valuable points in their goalless draw with East Fife (0:0).

Scottish Division Three

Stenhousemuir take over from Cowdenbeath at the top of the Third Division as these two sides played an entertaining game in front of only 485 supporters. Kevin Motion scored late in the game to seal the win, which, together with results elsewhere saw the Warriors leapfrog Annan into first place (1:0). The north-east game between Montrose and Elgin ended in a win for The Gable Endies, with Jamie Buchan getting the win in the 55th minute (1:0). Dumbarton, fresh from their 7:0 defeat in midweek could only manage a draw with East Stirling in a bad-tempered game that saw East Stirling pick up six yellow cards and one red, as Craig Tully was sent off for foul and abusive language (1:1). Berwick Rangers and Forfar played out a high scoring draw in a game that saw three goals coming from the  penalty spot (2:2). And Annan Athletic lose their first game of the season as they go down to Albion Rovers in a six-goal thriller at the Galabank. Two goals from Pat Walker and one from Bobby Walker and Marc Pollock secured the win for the Wee Rovers. Derek Townsley and Kevin Neilson got on the score sheet for Annan, who drop down to third place (2:4)
